To the Massanutten Community:
As you may recall, many areas in the Kettle were slated for a planned power outage on June 23. Due to severe storms in the Richmond area, Dominion Energy personnel were re-directed to that area and the work was postponed. This work has now been rescheduled for July 14, with July 21 as a backup date.
As with the previous announcement, the work is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:00 a.m. on the 14th and is expected to take between six and ten hours to complete, meaning that Dominion expects to restore power to the impacted areas by late morning to early-afternoon. The outage will impact certain MPOA commercial and residential areas, and numerous Massanutten Resort areas (please see list below).
Although most MPOA homeowners are unlikely to be affected, our first concern is for those in impacted areas who may be reliant upon electrically-driven medical equipment. If that’s your situation, we suggest that you might make arrangements with friends in non-impacted areas. If that doesn’t work for you, please contact Cameron Hatchet at my office and we’ll attempt to find a suitable location on the resort property for the duration of the outage. You can reach him at 540.289.4013 or via email: chatchett@massresort.com Please contact him at least 24 hours prior to the expected start of the outage, and let him know you’re an MPOA member from one of the impacted residential areas. He will do his very best to accommodate your requests.
Please also consider the impact on refrigerated and frozen food as a result of the outage. According to the CDC’s website link below, a full, well-insulated freezer can usually maintain food in a frozen state for up to 24 hours, provided that the door isn’t opened; highly perishable refrigerated foods (meats, milk, etc.) should be considered suspect after four hours without power, and less than that if you open the door regularly. Here are the guidelines from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/food-safety-during-a-power-outage.html It might make sense to arrange storage of perishable items with friends in unimpacted areas if you can. Unfortunately, we cannot accept MPOA residents’ foodstuffs in resort coolers, in that we’re moving refrigerated/frozen product from storage in the Kettle to areas that aren’t subject to the outage.

- Stonewall Terrace Pool
- Residences on Ranier Road, Wilson Way and Access Drive.
Massanutten Resort areas expected to be without power include:
- Shenandoah Villas at Nelson Court Units 1-23
- Shenandoah Villas at Trevor Court Units 24-77
- The Summit at Peak Drive Units 78-105
- Hotel 5 Rooms 1501-1550
- Hotel 6 Rooms 1601-1650
- Mountainside Villas Units 1-23, 91-105, 111-155
- Palmer Road Maintenance Offices (Grounds, Golf Grounds, Vehicle Maintenance)
- Family Adventure Park
- Ski School Learning Center
