Update 3/27/24: short takes (new hotel, mountain coaster, etc.)

To the Massanutten Community:

Our last several posts related to significant issues (MPSC’s rate request, a proposed development in the Passage Lane area). There are some odds and ends we thought you’d like to know about, however – so here they are

NEW DIRECTOR OF HOSPITALITY PROGRAMMING: This is a new role that will oversee the Spa, Retail, Merchandising, Special Events and similar operations. Don Henk, who was previously our Retail Manager, was promoted to the new position. We’re current conducting a search for a new Retail Manager.

THE MOUNTAIN COASTER: Construction has started, although it’s going a bit more slowly than we’d hoped. Even so, we currently expect this year-round attraction to be open in July.

NEW HOTEL/WATERPARK EXPANSION: These projects are part of the Massanutten Station development. We’re starting the parking lot work this week. If you missed it, here’s an article about the expansion from the Daily News Record:

The Hotel will feature approximately 142 guest rooms, and will be connected by way of a new atrium to a 6,000 square foot addition to the existing indoor WaterPark. A further 22,000 square-foot expansion to the indoor park will be built on the opposite side of the existing building.

The new hotel and indoor WaterPark facilities are expected to open January of 2026.

PROPOSED PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING PASSAGE LANE PROJECT: In my last post, which discussed the proposed Passage Lane development, I mentioned a possible community meeting to be held at 4:30 pm on April 2 at the Campfire Grill. We’ve not received any signups to date – and if we don’t receive  a quorum of 8 sign ups  by Friday afternoon we’ll cancel the meeting. To sign up, please visit this link:

(Please note: the above link takes you to a Smartsheet app that displays somewhat differently depending upon the browser you’re using. Some browsers appear to show only a green screen with no fields to enter information. Please scroll around on that green screen – you’ll find the fields).

Cordially,

Matthias Smith, Executive Vice President

    • Actually, it does – just checked it. Depending on your browser, you may need to scroll some – on some browsers, all you see is a green field. Scroll and you should see the signup. Please let us know if you’re still having trouble.

  1. I left a description of what happened when I tried to hit the link above in the smartsheet sign up: At first the page only loaded a blank green screen. Then I tried to scroll and found it by scrolling up. If you open the link you will see what I’m referring to. I don’t know if this is what happened to others or not. And I never saw this link prior to your 3/27 update. Where else is it posted?

    • So are you all set, Pat? Please note that if the resort doesn’t get at least 8 signups before tomorrow afternoon, they’ll cancel the meeting.

The link was also included in the 3/21 post.

  2. Yes I saw the 3/21 post where the link issue was brought to your attention and it looked like Joan was interested. The link in two separate browsers still had only the green screen and if I hadn’t accidentally scrolled on it I would not have found it. So I have some other questions which I posted in my sign up. Will those be answered if the meeting doesn’t happen?

    • No. There IS employee housing included in the Massanutten Station master plan. The hotel has nothing to do with employee housing.

  3. The sign up access needs to be improved. That’s why no one is signing up. To be greeted by a huge green screen is unacceptable.

    • It’s contingent on browser type, Bob, but agree that it can be a problem. Meantime, do click the link and scroll around – you’ll find the signup if you haven’t already.
