Update 5/16/24: Farmer’s Market Returns, WaterPark Open House, New Festival, and more!

To the Massanutten Community:

It’s my pleasure to add Michael Hammes’s signature to this update. As you might recall, Michael is Massanutten’s new Vice President and General Manager. He’s been on board for several months now, learning about the resort and developing relationships with the resort’s key staff. He’ll assume increasing responsibility for resort operations in the coming months. Ultimately, his voice will take the lead for these updates – but for now, he and I will be cosigners.

Here are some things you might like to know.

FARMER’S MARKET RETURNING: The Massanutten Farmer’s Market will return this summer, in the same location (southern side of the Woodstone complex). The opening date is Wednesday May 29; we expect it will run through to the end of August. Operating hours will be 9:00 a.m. to noon, and live music will be offered during operations as long as the weather permits. The Market gives area residents and resort guests access to local produce, preserves and craft products. Learn more about offerings by clicking here.

ROCK THE RIDGE FESTIVAL: The new Rock the Ridge festival will debut on June 1. There’ll be multiple bands – including top-rated AC/DC and Guns ‘n’ Roses tribute bands. This event is produced by the Massanutten Technical Center (MTC) Foundation and hosted by the resort. MTC, which is overseen collaboratively by Rockingham County Public Schools and Harrisonburg City Public Schools, offers continuing education including GED and training and apprenticeships in numerous technical and service fields to area high school students and adults. It’s a program well worth your support! The festival will offer food and beverage offerings and plenty of good, loud fun. Learn more and purchase tickets by clicking here.

WATERPARK COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE: Our popular Community Open House at the WaterPark returns Friday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. MPOA members and area residents are welcome to join us at the WaterPark free of charge. Pre-registration is required; you may reserve your slot by clicking here. Please note: depending upon which web browser or phone you’re using, you may only see a green box when you click the link. Scroll around in that field and you should find the sign-up.

MOUNTAIN COASTER: Our new Mountain Coaster is currently under construction. Scroll down for some pictures of what’s going on. We expect this fun new feature to open in August.

CONSTRUCTION: We are now in the initial construction phases for the WaterPark expansion and new hotel. Mostly, what you’ll see this summer is sitework, including new parking areas. Construction will be full-steam-ahead in the summer of 2025, with opening slated in the first quarter of 2026.

As always, we welcome your questions and input. Feel free to send them to community@massresort.com

Cordially,

Matthias Smith, Executive Vice President, Great Eastern

Michael Hammes, VP and General Manager, Massanutten Resort
