Update May 22, 2020

To our Community:

In follow up to the question posed at Saturday’s MPOA Board Meeting regarding how and when the resort will reopen, I thought I’d share a few notes.

This is in addition to the information on our website recovery page and in the press release announcing the reopening – which you can find on www.massresort.com/alerts and posted on our Community page – www.massresort.com/about/community/news-events/

A few points worth underscoring include:

1. Every aspect of our operations will in accordance with State and Federal regulations and guidelines. This includes orders from the Governor and policies mandated by the Virginia Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

2. We will reopen slowly. Fifty percent is our reopening target for both initial opening and the early stages. The gradual reopening will allow us to both ensure a solid training process and additional time for enhanced cleaning & inspection.

3. Some features and attractions will not open when the resort does. This includes the Water Park and may include other aquatic features. Those will open only when the State authorizes doing so, and we expect that at the start many or all are likely to have capacity limitations.

4. Check-out units will remain dormant for 48 hrs. prior to next check in to allow for both extra cleaning time and a spacer before reentry. Although the CDC has released some information this week that the virus is spread more readily through people than surfaces, we are opening with an abundance of caution.

5. Reduced capacity will be consistent throughout all of our restaurants and amenities to ensure necessary physical distancing and monitoring.

6. We will continue to reschedule – and cancel – reservations arriving from known Hot Spot areas as we did prior to April. While at that time, the states we excluded included New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, it is entirely possible that the states will differ during the reopening and throughout the summer.

7. We will keep an open dialogue. Open communication is essential. To that end, I am sharing the Intro page to our Massanutten Reopening plan and welcome your feedback on the lines mentioned in the letter or via the dedicated community@massresort.com email.

In short, while this time continues to be uncertain, what we do know is that the fundamentals of careful planning, communication and responsiveness remain tried and true. With that said, I thank you for all your support in our planning and open communication throughout this process.

Cordially,
Matthias Smith, VP/General Manager
